Alex Norman is a factory "screw". He enrolled in college as an engineer, but didn't get into college like his parents wanted him to, and now, at age 37, he works in a steel manufacturing plant, doing repetitive tasks day in and day out. His path in life may not have been the one he chose from the beginning of his teenage years, and "engineer" was never a name he wanted to be known by. He showed a strong interest in music since he was a child, but his family thought it was a bad idea. His mom told him, "That's a field that only rich kids are qualified to set foot in, and a poor family like ours can't afford to pay for it, so you won't be able to afford to eat, and we'll have to follow you to drink when we're old in the future. His father suppressed him in another way, saying that he sang out of tune, couldn't find the beat and had no talent to read music. As a young boy, he lost his confidence in music and implicitly believed these words.
